If you’re interested in undergoing a breast augmentation procedure, you might be focused on what implant size works best for your body.  But that’s not the only implant decision you’ll need to make – in fact, you’ll need to carefully consider what type of breast implant you’ll opt for.

While your plastic surgeon will work with you to help select the best type of breast implant for your particular needs, it’s best to walk into your consultation knowing about the different types of implants and what their benefits are.  We’ll focus on gummy bear implants, as these implants tend to be lesser known than their silicone or saline breast implant counterparts.

A gummy bear implant is a type of breast implant that maintains the natural shape of a woman’s breast.  The implant is more projected at the bottom with a tapered top, which creates a teardrop shape that mimics natural breasts.

Gummy bear implants get their name because they’re filled with a silicone gel that’s thicker than what’s normally found in silicone breast implants.  This means that if the implant breaks or leaks in any way, it will still maintain its natural shape.

One thing to keep in mind is that if a gummy bear implant moves, it could end up creating an odd breast shape.  If this occurs, you may need a surgical procedure to realign and correct the shape.
