Education and Volunteer Work
Dr. Kyle Song is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Irvine. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Dartmouth College. While he worked to complete his academic coursework, he also spent time volunteering at a local children’s hospital. His extracurricular activities included playing golf on the men’s varsity golf team, and voluntary student body service. Kyle Song’s undergraduate educational pursuits along with his volunteer experience at the hospital and student body, and involvement in university athletic programs helped prepared him to enter medical school at UC Davis.
Medical Degree, Training, and Fellowship
Kyle Song earned his medical degree from UC Davis Medical School and graduated at the top of his class. In fact, he scored in the 99th percentile nationally on his board exams. Consequently, his prestigious academic profile secured him a spot in the highly competitive General Surgery/Plastic Surgery program at UC Davis. While enrolled in the General Surgery/Plastic Surgery program, Dr. Song trained under the tutelage of some of the most well-renowned cosmetic and plastic surgeons in the country including:
- Dr. Thomas Stevenson, former director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery
- Dr. Granger Wong, a prestigious Harvard-trained craniofacial surgeon
- Dr. Michael Wong, a prominent body contouring expert
- Dr. Lee Pu, an internationally-renowned fat grafting expert
As a plastic surgical trainee, Dr. Song excelled in all training areas and quickly gained recognition among this group of renowned surgeons. After he completed the General Surgery/Plastic Surgery program at UC Davis, Dr. Song went on to complete a fellowship at the Plastic Surgery Center of Sacramento. There he spent an entire year focusing exclusively on cosmetic, surgical, and non-invasive treatments for the face, breast, and body.
Contributions and Prestigious Recognition
Dr. Song has contributed to the plastic surgery industry by conducting clinical research that has been published in several peer-reviewed periodicals. He also authored a chapter in a textbook that focused on the topic of Asian cosmetic surgery. His work has been presented in multiple venues on a regional, national, and international level, and he was the recipient of the prominent Francis W. Noel award for scholarly activity during residency. He was also runner-up for the resident research competition at the California Society of Plastic Surgeons annual meeting in 2011.
Dr. Song’s travels are extensive and he provides reconstructive surgical services to children in impoverished areas of the world. He has performed numerous cleft lip and cleft palate repair for children in Egypt, and he worked extensively in Tijuana, Mexico, providing victims of the Hermosillo Daycare fire with reconstructive surgery.
