Time, gravity, and weight loss cause loose, inelastic skin (with or without extra fatty tissue) to collect in the upper inner thigh. Like the lower tummy, this is a common problem area that is often resistant to even the most unwavering diet and exercise plans. Significant weight loss makes these undesirable changes even more pronounced. Thigh lift surgery reshapes the inner thigh to a firmer and more regular contour by combining liposuction with the removal of extra skin.
Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. It is often combined with other body contouring procedures including tummy tuck surgery, and arm surgery to enhance the overall transformation. Incisions for a thigh lift are within the groin crease, and occasionally down the inside of the thigh. To promote successful and uneventful healing, temporary surgical drains are used only in patients necessitating a vertical incision down the thigh.
Following surgery, a compression garment is worn over the surgical site to expedite swelling reduction and to facilitate proper healing of the tissues. You should expect to wear this garment for at least four weeks after surgery. The drains are removed somewhere between one and two weeks after surgery. While the drains are in place, you are allowed to shower as usual, but are asked to refrain from taking baths or being submerged in water. Most patients experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort, and take between one and two weeks off of work. You can resume light gym activities in three weeks, and unrestricted activities in six weeks.
