Many women struggle to live comfortably with issues related to overly large or stretched labia. A lack of balance between the inner and outer lips of the female genitalia can lead to discomfort, irritation, chafing, and embarrassment. Labiaplasty in Orange County is a custom procedure designed to reshape the area, which achieves a more aesthetic appearance and greater comfort.

What is a labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty surgery is performed to change the size, shape, and general appearance of the female genitalia. Labiaplasty can correct functional concerns, improve sexual sensation, and create a smaller and more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Your labiaplasty surgery is designed to resolve problems that include the following issues, and a number of others that relate to the vaginal lips:

  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Irritation when walking, biking, or swimming
  • A desire to create a tighter, youthful, attractive appearance

Age-related labiaplasty

Just like all other body tissues, the outer and inner vaginal tissues can stretch and become lax over time due to age. You may be dismayed to see the appearance of your vaginal lips changing over time. Our Ladera Ranch labiaplasty procedure is a custom surgery that resolves aesthetic problems associated with the labia minora (inner lips) and labia majora (outer lips). The operation is a delicate procedure to remove excess tissue and tighten the region to create a more youthful look and feel.

Who is a candidate for labiaplasty in Irvine and Ladera Ranch?

Any woman who is embarrassed by the appearance of her vagina or who suffers from physical discomfort associated with the structure could be a good candidate for this custom procedure. You should be in good overall health to undergo surgery. You should also be a non-smoker, and should fully understand what to expect in the surgery and recovery.

What happens during the labiaplasty procedure?

Your labiaplasty procedure may be done with general or local anesthesia, depending on your surgical plan and preferences. A labiaplasty procedure typically takes one to two hours.

Labiaplasty is usually performed with either the trim or wedge techniques, or variations on these. Your surgical plan and technique will be discussed with you and determined in your consultation with Dr. Ali.

Trim technique

The incisions are made along the edges of the labia to remove and trim excess tissue. The labia are reduced in size and reshaped, and the incisions are closed with sutures.

Wedge technique

The incisions are made in V-shape, allowing a wedge of tissue to be removed from both sides of the labia to reduce the size and improve the shape. After the tissue is removed, the incisions are sutured, leaving the natural edges of the labia intact. This technique can minimize the risk of sensation loss and improve scarring.

What is the recovery time after labiaplasty?

Before your scheduled surgery date, you should fill all prescriptions and arrange for another adult to transport you home. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with oral sedation.

The treated area will be swollen, and you will have prescription pain medication to help you stay comfortable during the early stages of healing. Place a pillow beneath your buttocks to help reduce swelling, which reaches its peak at about the three-day mark and slowly fades in the following days and weeks. To aid in your comfort, ice packs can be helpful.

Most women can return to work within one week if work duties are light. The sutures placed in the surgery dissolve naturally. You should feel well enough to return to your exercise routine in about four weeks, and well enough to engage in intercourse within about six weeks – although everyone varies slightly.
